**Jack Tuttle Retires Mid-Season Due to Medical Concerns**
Michigan quarterback Jack Tuttle announced his retirement from football on Monday night, citing medical reasons. The decision comes after Tuttle suffered his fifth concussion, which sidelined him during Michigan's 24-17 victory over Michigan State on Saturday.
Tuttle, who returned to Michigan for an extra season this fall, shared the news on social media. "Unfortunately, the recent experience of enduring my fifth concussion had brought forth the painful truth: That I need to start prioritizing my health," Tuttle wrote. "Throughout my college career, I've battled numerous injuries culminating in this difficult choice to step away from playing the game that I love."
Tuttle initially began his college career at Indiana before transferring to Michigan last season to back up J.J. McCarthy during their national championship run. Expected to lead the Wolverines as the starting quarterback this season, Tuttle's plans were derailed by an elbow injury that kept him from fully recovering in time for the season's start.
Despite the setback, Tuttle made his first start of the season against Illinois on October 19, completing 20-of-32 passes and throwing one interception in a 21-7 loss. He also stepped in for Alex Orji during their prior match against Washington. However, he did not play in the recent win over Michigan State, with Davis Warren starting in his place.
Over his six-season career, Tuttle played in 23 games, throwing seven touchdowns, eight interceptions, and completing just under 60% of his passes. Though his playing days are over, Tuttle expressed a desire to stay connected to the sport. "Though closing this chapter is unfortunate, my passion for football will always be a part of me," he wrote. "I am committed to finding a different role in the game and plan to pursue a role in coaching."
Michigan, now holding a 5-3 record, is set to host No. 1 Oregon next. The Wolverines face challenging road games ahead against No. 13 Indiana and No. 4 Ohio State as they approach the season's final four games.
