In a bold move, renowned draft expert Mel Kiper Jr. is doubling down on his support for New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones by projecting Washington wide receiver Rome Odunze as the Giants' top pick in his latest mock draft.

Despite a challenging 2023 season that saw Jones sidelined with a torn ACL, Kiper remains an ardent supporter of the young quarterback. In a recent plea to the Giants' organization, Kiper urged them not to give up on Jones and instead continue building around him.

With the sixth overall pick in his mock draft, Kiper believes that selecting Odunze would be a step in the right direction for the Giants. Throughout last season, the Giants' offense struggled, ranking 29th in points scored per game (14.0), 30th in yards per play (4.5), and dead last in sack rate per dropback (12.8%). However, it's important to note that these statistics reflect a season that included only six games from Jones due to his injury.

Looking ahead to the 2024 season, Kiper believes that ensuring Jones has the necessary support is crucial to avoid a recurrence of the team's offensive struggles. The Giants currently have an abundance of second and third wide receivers but lack a true number one option. Odunze, who had an impressive season with 92 catches for 1,640 yards and 13 touchdowns, could potentially fill that void and become the Giants' primary receiver.

Furthermore, if the Giants choose to stick with Jones as their starting quarterback, they will also need to address their offensive line. Protecting Jones will be vital in preventing another injury setback and allowing him to showcase his skills.

Kiper's recommendation of Odunze as the Giants' top pick not only reflects his unwavering faith in Jones but also recognizes the team's dire need for offensive reinforcements. By bolstering their receiving corps and fortifying their offensive line, the Giants could set themselves up for a more successful and productive 2024 season.

It remains to be seen whether the Giants will follow Kiper's advice, but one thing is for certain - the draft will certainly be an exciting time for Giants fans as they eagerly anticipate the team's moves to improve their offense for the upcoming season.
