### Mark Duplass Shares His Ongoing Battle with Depression and Anxiety
Mark Duplass, widely known for his role in "The Morning Show," has candidly discussed the ongoing struggle he faces with his mental health. In an interview with Page Six during the Gotham Television Awards, the 48-year-old actor opened up about the daily challenges involved in managing his depression and anxiety.
"It's a really complicated system of making sure you get enough sleep, making sure you get exercise every day, making sure I'm being really careful about the medication I take, never to miss it," Duplass explained. He has been on the same medication for nearly twenty years, emphasizing its significance in maintaining his mental stability. "It's a delicate balance and ecosystem," he admitted before noting the exhaustion that often accompanies his efforts. "I feel like I gotta make sure I keep showing up and working and it's exhausting sometimes, but what choice do I have?"
Duplass has taken to social media to share his experiences, making it a mission to demystify mental health issues. In October 2023, he posted a photo of himself smiling on a red carpet on Instagram, revealing that despite the broad smile, there was fear and sadness behind it. "I have been struggling with anxiety and depression for most of my life," he wrote. "When I see pictures of myself like this one, I can see the fear and sadness behind the smile. Even at my most 'happy' times."
Upon realizing that his candidness resonated with many, the "Creep" star decided to continue sharing his journey more openly. His posts have helped others see that mental health struggles can affect anyone, regardless of outward appearances. "This is a torch that's probably worth carrying now, so then I became much more consciously forward and sharing," he said.
One of the most challenging aspects of his mental health issues, Duplass said, is their unpredictability. "It’s not always rational when it comes. There can be times when things around you seem really bad and you're doing well. There can be times when everything's going really, really well and you can't get out of bed," he shared. This unpredictability can make it difficult to navigate daily life, but Duplass remains committed to managing his condition.
Interestingly, Duplass also links his mental health to his creative process. "I believe my depression and anxiety are tied to my creativity and the way that my brain works," he disclosed, adding, "So I wouldn't change it, but it's not easy." This perspective sheds light on how intertwined mental health can be with various aspects of a person's life, including their professional and creative endeavors.
