A disturbing ticking noise in a 2019 Dodge Ram 1500 Rebel has prompted a man to speak out against the dealership he purchased the vehicle from. In a viral video posted on TikTok by creator Damian (@hotwheelsdamian), the car enthusiast shared his experience of discovering the concerning noise when the car starts up cold.
Since its upload on August 5th, the TikTok video has garnered over 399,000 views, drawing attention to the alleged "lemon" car sold to Damian and his parents. "Yeah, it is not supposed to make that noise," Damian explains in the video, highlighting the audible ticking sound present during the initial startup. Although the noise eventually subsided, it raised enough concern for them to approach the small dealership from which they made the purchase.
Damian claims that despite having a warranty that should cover any necessary repairs, the dealership has been uncooperative. "Even though my dad paid an extra 5k to do warranty on it, they still don't want to do it," he expresses in frustration. According to him, the issue has been persistent and has progressively worsened over time.
In an attempt to resolve the situation, Damian plans to take the Rebel to a different dealership in hopes that they will honor the warranty and address the problematic ticking noise.
To shed light on the capabilities and performance of the Dodge Ram 1500 Rebel, Car and Driver's review mentioned its robust Hemi V-8 engine and praised its deep-throated growl and responsive acceleration. MotorTrend also commended the truck's mix of luxury, technology, comfort, and reliability, highlighting its exceptional off-road capabilities.
Various theories have emerged from commenters on the TikTok video, speculating on the cause of the ticking noise. Suggestions range from exhaust manifold bolt issues to exhaust manifold gasket leaks. Damian confirmed that the noise was indeed coming from the lifters, but a subsequent video revealed that it was, in fact, an exhaust manifold bolt causing the problem.
The Daily Dot has reached out to Damian for further comment and clarification, as well as to Chrysler/Dodge regarding the alleged issue. As more information becomes available, it remains to be seen how this situation will be resolved and whether the dealership will take responsibility for the reported faults in the Dodge Rebel.
