### Former LSU Safety Greg Brooks Sues University for Negligence Over Brain Surgery Malpractice
Former LSU Tigers football player Greg Brooks has taken legal action against his alma mater and its associated medical center, accusing them of negligence following a brain surgery that ended his career. According to a report by Ross Dellenger of Yahoo, the ex-safety's lawsuit alleges a series of missteps and malpractice beginning with the discovery of his brain tumor last fall.
Brooks claims that the coaching staff pressured him to continue playing despite his illness, sometimes threatening to revoke his starting position if he did not suit up. Furthermore, he accuses the team trainers of failing to properly diagnose his condition, ultimately delaying his referral to a neurological specialist by several weeks.
The legal complaint extends to the team surgeon, Dr. Brandon Gaynor, who performed the operation at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge. Brooks alleges that the surgery resulted in "catastrophic neurological injuries" and left him "permanently disabled." He states that he suffered from multiple strokes post-operation, which he attributes to medical malpractice.
Suffering from posterior fossa syndrome—a condition affecting speech, motor skills, and behavior—Brooks now faces a lifetime of required care due to his paralysis. He contends that this debilitating condition is a direct result of the neurosurgeons' malpractice.
Over the span of his career, Brooks participated in 50 games with Arkansas and LSU, marking 93 tackles and six interceptions. The lawsuit underscores the tragic and abrupt end to his promising football journey, painting a grim picture of alleged negligence and medical failures.
