A Los Angeles resident, identified as 33-year-old Ksenia Khavana by her employer at the Ciel Spa in the SLS luxury hotel in Beverly Grove, has been arrested in Russia on suspicion of high treason. Khavana was apprehended by Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) after allegedly donating $51.80 to a Ukrainian charity from the United States, as reported by the Daily Mail. The incident came to light when Khavana failed to show up for work in mid-January, prompting CEO Isabella Koretz to disclose that Khavana had visited Russia to see her family.

Khavana, who had been working at the spa for 8 years, originally obtained her Visa to the U.S. as a ballet dancer. Video footage released by the Russian state news agency RIA Novosti shows Khavana being detained and escorted away in handcuffs by the FSB, with Time reporting that treason charges in Russia can result in a life sentence. The U.S. State Department's "Do Not Travel" advisory for Russia warns Americans of the risk of wrongful detention, serving as a grim reminder of the sobering realities faced by individuals caught in such situations.
