**Trump Administration Deploys National Guard Amid Unrest Over Immigration Crackdown in LA**

In response to escalating immigration protests in Los Angeles, the Trump administration has announced the deployment of the national guard, according to border czar Tom Homan. During an interview with Fox News, Homan emphasized the administration’s commitment to enforcing immigration laws, stating, "This is about enforcing the law."

The situation came to a head as immigration authorities extended raids into Paramount, south-east of Los Angeles. The raids were met with significant resistance, with crowds gathering outside an industrial park. Border patrol agents in riot gear and gas masks deployed teargas at bystanders and protesters, many of whom recorded the events on their smartphones.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem issued a stern warning to protesters, tweeting, "A message to the LA rioters: you will not stop us or slow us down. @Icegov will continue to enforce the law. And if you lay a hand on a law enforcement officer, you will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."

The protests turned particularly volatile on Friday at a federal detention facility in downtown LA, where David Huerta, president of the California branch of the Service Employees International Union, was arrested. Huerta was injured and detained during a forceful police response that included teargas and flash-bangs. From the hospital, Huerta issued a statement to the Los Angeles Times, declaring that his experience was part of a larger issue, saying, "Hard-working people, and members of our family and our community, are being treated like criminals."

Tia Orr, executive director of SEIU California, added her voice to the criticism, calling for an end to what she described as "cruel, destructive, and indiscriminate Ice raids."

State leaders also reacted strongly to the federal actions. California Governor Gavin Newsom decried the raids, stating that they were "reckless" and "cruel," and condemned Huerta's arrest. "David Huerta is a respected leader, a patriot, and an advocate for working people. No one should ever be harmed for witnessing government action," Newsom said.

Meanwhile, the situation on the ground remained tense. US Customs and Border Protection officers circulated through the closed streets of Paramount. On Friday, ICE officers arrested more than 40 individuals across multiple locations, provoking further unrest as crowds tried to obstruct the agents.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass criticized the federal activities, describing them as sowing "terror" in the city. ICE acting director Todd Lyons responded, accusing Bass of siding with "chaos and lawlessness."

Protests continued into Friday evening outside a federal detention center in Los Angeles, with demonstrators chanting and holding signs reading "ICE out of LA!" and calling for the release of detainees. Federal agents had executed search warrants across three locations, including a warehouse in the city's fashion district.

California Representative Jimmy Gomez condemned the raids as "pure intimidation" and offered advice to those confronted by ICE: "You have the right to remain silent. Film everything. Don't sign anything without a lawyer. Don't open the door without a signed warrant."
