The Los Angeles Rams have reached an agreement with defensive back John Johnson III, the team announced on Thursday. The 28-year-old player is returning to the Rams for his second stint with the team, following two seasons with the Cleveland Browns.
John Johnson III had an impressive season in 2023, playing in 17 games and making eight starts. During this time, he recorded 42 tackles, two interceptions, and six pass breakups. This solid performance has demonstrated his value to the Rams' defense.
Originally drafted by the Rams in the third round of the 2017 draft from Boston College, Johnson has proved himself to be a dependable player in the league. In his career spanning 71 regular-season games, he has accumulated 392 tackles, 10 interceptions, and 38 pass breakups. He has also registered eight tackles for loss and one forced fumble.
Johnson's contributions have not been limited to the regular season. He has been an integral part of the Rams' playoff campaigns, starting in all seven games he has played in. During these playoff appearances, Johnson has made 42 tackles and secured one interception.
After his initial four-year stint with the Rams, Johnson joined the Cleveland Browns as a free agent in 2021. In his time with the Browns, he showcased his skills with 162 tackles, four interceptions, nine pass breakups, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and five tackles for loss in 32 games, all of which he started, from 2021 to 2022.
