After 35 years as the iconic voice of the University of Alabama football radio broadcasts, veteran broadcaster Eli Gold, 70, has spoken out about his departure following a recent announcement by the university. Despite battling and overcoming cancer in 2022, Gold revealed that his exit is not health-related, emphasizing that he is in excellent health. Gold expressed his intention to continue working, hinting at upcoming opportunities that he plans to announce this week.
Gold, who also hosted the Nick Saban "Hey Coach!" show, will not be retiring but instead embarks on a new chapter following the university's decision to move in a different direction. The Brooklyn native, who has been with Alabama since 1988, plans to continue residing in the Birmingham area while exploring new opportunities.
His contract with the university is set to expire in June, with Chris Stewart, a member of the broadcast network since 1998 and the voice of Alabama men's basketball, taking over Gold's roles. Initially slated to cover A-Day, Gold shared that the university has instead opted for a clean break, with his contract set to be honored until June. The stage is now set for Gold to announce his next career move amidst the end of his longstanding tenure with the Crimson Tide football broadcasts.
