In a recent interview with "Entertainment Tonight," actor Kevin Costner expressed uncertainty about his character's return for the final season of the hit television series "Yellowstone." Costner, who stars as John Dutton in the show, revealed that negotiations are still ongoing and he is unsure how his involvement will be worked out.

Speaking at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Costner admitted, "I'd like to be able to do it, but we haven't been able to - I'm not sure how it's being worked out." The actor had initially hoped to complete seven seasons of "Yellowstone," but the show is currently in its fifth season, leaving the future of his character uncertain.

Paramount Network has already given the green light for a spinoff of "Yellowstone," led by Matthew McConaughey. However, production for the final installment of "Yellowstone" is currently not in progress, as reported by several cast members.

Costner reflected on his time on the series, stating, "I've loved making that series. I made five seasons of it. I thought I was going to make seven [seasons], but right now we're at five. So how it works out - I hope it does - but they've got a lot of different shows going on."

Rumors have circled that Costner would not likely return for the second half of season five. Speculation of a feud between the actor and production gained traction due to a delay in shooting new episodes caused by the Hollywood writers' strike.

During legal proceedings with his ex-wife Christine Baumgartner over the summer, Costner addressed the controversy. He expressed frustration with the additional production time required for "Yellowstone" while he was simultaneously working on his upcoming project "Horizon: An American Saga," set to release later this summer.

In court, Costner revealed that he had been offered $24 million to shoot seasons five, six, and seven of "Yellowstone" before scheduling conflicts disrupted the plans.

Despite the dispute, Costner shared that he has envisioned how his character would ultimately exit the series. However, he acknowledged that the series creator, Taylor Sheridan, ultimately had the final say in the narrative direction.

"Well, you know, he needs to be proactive in what happens," Costner stated. "And I've kind of had my own fantasy how it might be, but that's Taylor's thing. I said as much to him, you know, a while back. Maybe he doesn't remember. I had thoughts about how it could happen, but we just have to see."

Fans of "Yellowstone" will have to wait to see if John Dutton, played by Kevin Costner, makes his anticipated return for the final season. The negotiations between Costner and the show's production team are ongoing, leaving the character's fate up in the air for now.
