In a surprising move, the Kansas City Chiefs have decided to release defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs amid allegations of domestic violence and burglary, according to an announcement made by the team on Monday. This comes just over a week after Buggs was arrested for the second time this offseason.

The 27-year-old Buggs is currently in jail as he faces charges stemming from an alleged incident in Alabama earlier this month. According to court documents from Tuscaloosa district court, Buggs allegedly unlawfully entered a woman's apartment with the intent to commit a crime. It is also alleged that he dragged the mother of his child down the stairs during the incident.

Buggs' most recent arrest occurred on June 16, and the Chiefs had not publicly commented on the matter until now. This incident follows another arrest just a month ago, where Buggs turned himself in on misdemeanor charges of alleged animal cruelty.

His agent, Trey Robinson, argued that Buggs was the victim of a "subversive campaign" aimed at shutting down his Tuscaloosa-based business, as reported by ESPN. Buggs was drafted in the sixth round out of Alabama in 2019 and only joined the Chiefs in January as a member of the practice squad. Despite signing a new contract in February, he had yet to make an appearance in a game for Kansas City.

Buggs' release adds to the legal troubles faced by the Chiefs this offseason, as wide receiver Rashee Rice is still awaiting NFL discipline following a high-speed car crash in March that resulted in multiple criminal charges.

It remains to be seen how these recent incidents will impact the Chiefs' roster and their plans for the upcoming season. The team will have to regroup and make adjustments as they navigate these challenging circumstances.
