In an exciting collaboration, the Super Bowl-winning Kansas City Chiefs are teaming up with Hallmark Channel to create a heartwarming Christmas movie titled "Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story." The announcement, made on Tuesday, has sparked enthusiasm among fans as the film promises to showcase the energy and traditions of the beloved team and its hometown.
The movie will feature popular actors Tyler Hynes, Hunter King, and Ed Begley, Jr. in leading roles. Production is scheduled to begin in July, with filming taking place exclusively on the Missouri side of the metro, including iconic locations like Arrowhead Stadium.
"This partnership unites two passionate fanbases and gives us an opportunity to show Chiefs Kingdom's energy and tradition on one of the most-watched channels during the holiday season," expressed Chiefs president Mark Donovan in a press release.
While fans might have initially connected dots between the movie and the real-life relationship of Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and superstar Taylor Swift, the plot deviates from their love story. Instead, the movie revolves around Alana Higman (Hunter King), a lifelong Chiefs fan, and Derrick (Tyler Hynes), the team's Director of Fan Engagement.
Alana is convinced that her family's devotion to the Chiefs makes them strong contenders for the "Fan of the Year" contest. Tasked with judging the finalists, Derrick spends time with Alana, and a budding romance develops between them. However, when Alana's grandfather's cherished vintage Chiefs winter hat goes missing, she begins to question everything, including her future with Derrick. Can Christmas magic intervene and save their potential love story?
Chiefs merchandise holds significant importance in the film and mirrors the real-life connection between Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift. Swift, frequently seen at NFL games, has consistently donned Chiefs-themed clothing and accessories, generating attention and support for local businesses selling team apparel.
One can't help but wonder if Alana's treasured Chiefs hat in the movie will be modeled after the hand-crocheted hat Swift wore to a game in December. Crafted by Kathryn Cacho, the hat quickly sold out and brought a surge of business to the boutique Westside Storey and Cacho's own crochet shop.
"Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story" promises to not only delight fans of the team but also capture the spirit of Christmas and the magic it holds. With production set to begin soon, Chiefs fans eagerly anticipate seeing their beloved team and hometown showcased on the small screen during the holiday season.
