In an interview with CNN, Jimmy Kimmel shared his thoughts on potential monologue topics for the upcoming Oscars and revealed which celebrities might be off-limits for jokes. As the host of Hollywood's biggest night for the fourth time, Kimmel aims to strike a balance between poking fun at the stars and avoiding offense.
While Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have made headlines during football season, Kimmel believes that the celebrity couple may be "played out" and might not be included in his opening monologue. He explained that it depends on the sensitivity of the person being parodied and emphasized that some individuals are more sensitive than others.
However, one person who is likely to be roasted onstage is Matt Damon, with whom Kimmel has had a comedic feud for years. Kimmel gleefully mentioned that Damon, who is not nominated for an Oscar this year, would probably be a target for his witty jabs. Amusingly, Kimmel confirmed that Damon will not be attending the Oscars and jokingly suggested that he couldn't get a ticket.
For those who have recently gotten on Kimmel's bad side, they can breathe a sigh of relief. Former congressman George Santos, who filed a lawsuit against Kimmel, accusing him of deception regarding Cameo videos, will not be mentioned during the ceremony. Kimmel expressed his lack of interest in giving Santos any airtime.
Similarly, Aaron Rodgers, who caused controversy by falsely suggesting that Kimmel would be mentioned in court documents linked to the Jeffrey Epstein case, will not be a topic of discussion at the Oscars. Kimmel humorously claimed that he didn't even know who Rodgers was and ruled out the possibility of having him as a guest on his show.
In regards to politics, Kimmel stated that he doesn't plan to devote much time to the subject during the awards ceremony. However, if any notable developments arise, he may include them in his monologue. It is unlikely that former President Donald Trump will be targeted, despite Kimmel previously making jokes about him on his late-night show.
While Kimmel holds strong opinions about Trump, he expressed a desire to have a conversation with him on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" He believes that there are significant questions he would like to ask the former president, aiming to elicit actual, substantive answers rather than the usual political rhetoric.
In terms of logistics, Kimmel informed viewers that the Oscars will begin an hour earlier this year, at 7 p.m. EST, in an attempt to wrap up the notoriously lengthy ceremony on time. With his trademark humor, Kimmel joked that while the show may start early, it will still likely end just as late as ever.
As Kimmel continues to prepare for the Academy Awards, fans eagerly await his witty monologue and the surprises that the star-studded event has in store.
