Actor James Van Der Beek, best known for his role in "Dawson's Creek," announced that he has been diagnosed with colorectal cancer. Despite the unsettling news, he conveyed an optimistic outlook, stating he feels "good" and has reasons to remain positive.
Van Der Beek, 47, shared the diagnosis in a statement to People magazine, mentioning that he has been addressing the condition privately with strong support from his family. "I have colorectal cancer. I've been privately dealing with this diagnosis and have been taking steps to resolve it, with the support of my incredible family," he disclosed.
The actor’s representative, Whitney Tancred, confirmed the diagnosis to CBS News. Specific details regarding the stage or progression of Van Der Beek’s condition were not provided.
Colorectal cancer, as noted by the American Cancer Society, originates in the colon or rectum. The disease can present symptoms such as blood in the stool, alterations in bowel habits, abdominal pain, bloating, unexplained weight loss, vomiting, and fatigue.
In spite of his health challenges, Van Der Beek continues to pursue his acting career. He is slated to appear in the upcoming Tubi movie "Sidelined: The QB and Me," which will be released on November 29.
