**Potential Shakeup Looms Over Jacksonville Jaguars Amid Disappointing Season**
The Jacksonville Jaguars find themselves at a crossroads as they endure one of their most disappointing seasons in recent memory. Speculation is rife that significant changes could be imminent, with head coach Doug Pederson and general manager Trent Baalke potentially on the chopping block. This Sunday's matchup against the Detroit Lions precedes a much-needed bye in Week 12, yet it could also mark a pivotal point for the franchise.
According to CBS Sports NFL Insider Jonathan Jones, a loss to the Lions in Week 11 could spell the end of Pederson's tenure in Jacksonville. The expectation around the league is that the Jaguars will be hunting for new leadership, both in coaching and management, during the upcoming offseason. An NFL Media report has also hinted at a possible "dramatic move" as early as this week. Should Pederson be dismissed, quarterbacks coach Mike McCoy, who has previous head-coaching experience, might step in as interim head coach.
Looking ahead to the 2025 season, the Jaguars are reportedly considering Lions coordinators Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn as potential candidates for their head coaching job. Historically, in-season changes have not been uncommon for the franchise. In late November 2020, the Jaguars parted ways with GM Dave Caldwell after three seasons. Similarly, head coach Urban Meyer was fired less than a year into his role in 2021.
Doug Pederson, who guided the team since 2022, was initially seen as a source of stability given his Super Bowl-winning background. Unfortunately, the Jaguars have yet to meet expectations under his leadership, struggling to a 2-8 start in the 2024 season.
This poor performance is particularly disappointing considering the hefty contract extensions given to key players Trevor Lawrence and Josh Hines-Allen during the offseason. Jaguars owner Shad Khan had previously dubbed this roster as "the best team assembled by the Jacksonville Jaguars ever" back in September, making their current sub-.500 record even more painful.
The team’s immediate future hangs in the balance as they gear up to face the formidable 8-1 Detroit Lions. A loss could trigger swift changes within the organization, potentially marking the end of another coaching era in Jacksonville.
