According to sources, J.J. Redick has a list of potential assistants in mind if he becomes the next head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. Redick, who is currently an ESPN broadcaster, is believed to be the frontrunner for the job, with rumors pointing to the Lakers leaning towards hiring him.

One of the assistants that Redick hopes to add to his coaching staff is Celtics assistant Sam Cassell. Cassell, along with Pelicans assistant James Borrego, had interviewed for the head coaching position with the Lakers. The Athletic previously described them as "the initial leading targets" alongside Redick. Sources say that Redick also has his sights set on Mavericks assistant Jared Dudley, who previously played for the Lakers in 2021 and has strong relationships with LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

In other coaching news, Terry Stotts is reportedly among the head coaching candidates being considered by the Cleveland Cavaliers. Sources suggest that Stotts' success in Portland with a small backcourt similar to Cleveland's Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland could make him a beneficial choice for the team. Warriors assistant Kenny Atkinson is considered the top candidate to replace J.B. Bickerstaff, but sources confirm that Borrego, former Cavs coaching consultant Dave Joerger, and Knicks associate head coach Johnnie Bryant are also being considered.

Meanwhile, extension talks between coach Mike Brown and the Sacramento Kings have hit a stalemate due to salary demands and the team's lack of postseason success. Both parties have agreed to table negotiations, potentially leaving Brown as a lame-duck coach next season. Brown has a four-year contract, but the final season is a mutual option, requiring both him and the team to opt in.

In Mavericks news, there is optimism about Maxi Kleber potentially returning if the team reaches the NBA Finals. Kleber has been sidelined since separating his right shoulder during the final game of the first-round series against the Clippers on May 3.

The coaching landscape in the NBA is seeing potential changes and new faces, with Redick's potential hiring by the Lakers and other teams exploring their options for the upcoming season. Fans and analysts will be eagerly awaiting official announcements and decisions in the coming weeks.
