In a recent news report, it has been revealed that the investigation into the untimely death of beloved actor Matthew Perry is coming to a close. The Los Angeles Times reported on Wednesday that two law enforcement sources have confirmed that the probe is nearly finished, with prosecutors now tasked with deciding whether to file charges against those connected to Perry's acquisition of the lethal amount of ketamine found in his blood.
The investigation, which began in May, has involved various agencies including the Los Angeles Police Department, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the U.S. Postal Service. Detectives have been diligently tracing Perry's procurement of the dissociative anesthetic ketamine, a drug that has long been used recreationally but has recently gained recognition for its potential in depression treatment.
Perry's tragic demise occurred on October 28 when he was found drowned in the hot tub of his Pacific Palisades home. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's office determined that the cause of death was cardiovascular overstimulation and respiratory depression, resulting from a lethal dose of ketamine in his system. The amount of the drug found in Perry's blood was equivalent to what is typically used during general anesthesia.
According to the medical examiner's report, several contributing factors were identified, including drowning, coronary artery disease, and the effects of buprenorphine, a drug used to treat opioid use. However, the acute effects of ketamine were listed as the primary cause of the actor's death. It was also noted that Perry's most recent ketamine therapy session had taken place approximately a week and a half before his passing, raising questions about the high levels of the drug still present in his system.
Further investigation revealed that only a psychiatrist and anesthesiologist, who also served as Perry's primary care physician, were known to be treating him in October. No other drugs were found in the actor's system, and no drug paraphernalia was discovered at his residence.
With the investigation drawing to a close, law enforcement officials are hoping to determine whether any individuals played a role in Perry's procurement of the lethal amount of ketamine. Prosecutors will soon decide whether to press charges against those linked to the late actor's acquisition of the drug.
As Matthew Perry's fans and loved ones continue to mourn his loss, they await the conclusion of the investigation for more clarity surrounding the tragic circumstances of his passing.
