### International Team Rallies for Historic Comeback at Presidents Cup

The 2024 Presidents Cup saw a dramatic turnaround on Friday as the International Team staged a stunning comeback against the U.S. Team at Royal Montreal. After falling behind with a clean sweep of 5-0 in Thursday’s Four-ball session, the Internationals responded with their own 5-0 sweep, leveling the playing field. This marks the first time in the history of the event that both opening rounds have concluded with sweeps.

International Team Captain Mike Weir and U.S. Team Captain Jim Furyk are now set for Saturday morning’s Four-ball session, following their respective picks. Despite earlier statements from Furyk about not pairing the world's top two players, Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele, Saturday will feature formidable U.S. pairings. Scheffler, the reigning FedExCup champion and world No. 1, will team up with Collin Morikawa, FedExCup runner-up and world No. 4. This pairing takes on Adam Scott and Taylor Pendrith, recent 5-and-4 Foursomes victors. Scott’s win on Friday also made him the all-time points leader for the International Team.

Golf analysts suggest that the talent of Scheffler alone makes the Americans favorites. Combining this with Morikawa’s prowess, they form a tough duo to beat. However, Scott and Pendrith have already shown their capability, and the challenge they present should not be underestimated.

Mike Weir’s strategy on Saturday involves capitalizing on the support of home fans by featuring more Canadian players early in the lineup. The enthusiastic crowd will provide a boost as play starts at 7 a.m. Weir has retained the pairing of Conners and Hughes, who succeeded with a 5-and-4 win on Friday. Meanwhile, Furyk begins with his strongest players, including three of the world’s top four in the initial matches. Finau and Schauffele, who secured a close 1-up victory on Thursday, will be crucial in maintaining American momentum.

Despite Finau's mixed performance thus far, if he can support Schauffele effectively, their pairing could stem the International resurgence. In another notable matchup, Tom Kim, known for his exuberant energy, is expected to lead the fight for the Internationals. This match is projected to be tightly contested.

Lastly, Hideki Matsuyama and Sungjae Im, fresh off a record-setting 7-and-6 victory over Cantlay and Schauffele, maintain their pairing for Weir. For the Americans, Burns and Cantlay, who achieved a 2-and-1 Four-ball win on Thursday, will also stay as a duo, showcasing Furyk’s strategy of relying on tried and tested combinations.

The Presidents Cup is set for another thrilling day of golf, with the International Team’s determination adding a new layer of excitement to the tournament.
