**Veteran Actor Timothy West Passes Away at 90**
Timothy West, renowned for his roles in iconic U.K. television soaps "Coronation Street" and "EastEnders," has died at the age of 90. His family confirmed on Wednesday that he peacefully passed away in his sleep, surrounded by friends and family.
Over the years, West's career spanned both theater and television. In the 2000s, West made a notable transition to television. He played Geoffrey Adams in the BBC One sitcom "Not Going Out" from 2007 to 2009. His soap opera legacy continued with roles such as Eric Babbage in ITV's "Coronation Street" in 2013, where he became a love interest for Sue Johnston's character Gloria Price. In 2014, he joined the cast of "EastEnders," portraying Stan Carter, the father of Shirley and Tina Carter.
Complementing his acting endeavors, West and his wife, actress Prunella Scales, co-hosted the Channel 4 series "Great Canal Journeys" from 2014 until 2019. The popular travelogue series followed their picturesque narrowboat travels across the U.K. and Europe. Most recently, he took on the role of Jeremy Lister in the historical drama series "Gentlemen Jack," which aired from 2019 to 2022.
West leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Prunella Scales, who is also dealing with Alzheimer's disease. He is survived by his sister Patricia, daughter Juliet, sons Samuel (an actor) and Joseph, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. His passing marks the end of a distinguished acting career and he will be deeply missed by his family and fans alike.
