**Texans Seek to Bolster Receiver Corps Following Stefon Diggs' Season-Ending Injury**
The Houston Texans' wide receiver ranks have thinned significantly during the first half of the season, with Stefon Diggs now confirmed out for the year due to a torn ACL. While Nico Collins is expected to return soon, the team is actively exploring trade options before the November 5 deadline to fill the void left by Diggs' absence.
The Texans had high hopes for this season after acquiring Diggs in an offseason trade that included a 2025 second-round pick. Diggs, who had never suffered a major injury in his career, was expected to be a critical part of Houston's offense. His injury, coupled with other receiver challenges, has shifted the Texans' strategy significantly.
Collins and third-round pick Tank Dell were initially part of a promising trio with Diggs. However, Dell also faced setbacks, including a season-ending injury in 2023 and minor injuries from an offseason shooting. Now, he is Houston's leading active pass catcher but has only 24 receptions for 229 yards this season, far behind Collins' and Diggs' numbers.
Houston General Manager Nick Caserio paired Diggs' $24 million-per-year contract with rookie standout C.J. Stroud, who had an impressive Offensive Rookie of the Year season. However, with Diggs heading to free agency after agreeing to remove the final years of his contract, the Texans are left to look for alternatives to maintain their offensive strength.
The Texans still roster receivers like Robert Woods and John Metchie, but no other player beyond the top three has gained more than 75 yards this season. Xavier Hutchinson, in his second year, has the most among the second-stringers with 64 yards.
Potential trade targets include notable names such as Mike Williams, Darius Slayton, Adam Thielen, and several players from the Patriots like K.J. Osborn, Kendrick Bourne, and Tyquan Thornton. Also of interest are Seahawks’ D.K. Metcalf and Chargers’ Josh Palmer. Additionally, should the Raiders decide to part with Jakobi Meyers, the Texans would likely be eager to make a move due to previous connections.
On the offensive line, the Texans are seeing interest in Kenyon Green, their No. 12 overall pick in 2022. Green, who missed all of last season due to a knee injury, has struggled this season and was benched in Week 8. Ranked as the NFL's worst guard according to Pro Football Focus, Green has returned to the starting lineup due to injuries to other players but remains a potential trade candidate.
As the trade deadline nears, the Texans face the dual challenge of reinforcing their wide receiver position and addressing the future of their offensive line. The coming days will reveal whether they can make the deals needed to stay competitive in the AFC South.
