The release of the Houston Texans' new uniforms has sparked a buzz among fans in the 713 area and across the country on social media platforms like X and Instagram. However, the fresh fits have also brought some controversy, particularly with the Tennessee Titans, as the Texans' new "H-Town Blue" color scheme bears a resemblance to the Oilers' "Columbia Blue" from the past.

Back in 1996, when Bud Adams relocated the team from Houston, he took the rights to all Oilers' property, including the logo and color scheme. This move has stirred up tensions now that Houston has introduced a similar shade of blue in their uniforms.

Initially, the "H-Town Blue" was expected to have a more prominent presence on the jerseys. However, the league intervened at the last minute, leading to a compromise between the Texans and the NFL. Cal McNair, principal owner of the Texans, and his wife Hannah McNair, who is also the vice president of the Houston Texans Foundation, expressed their desire to represent Houston with the light blue color alongside the "H" on the color rush uniforms or in "H-Town" stitching. While fans and the McNairs themselves would have liked more of the color, they worked with the league to reach a compromise.

Titans's involvement in the controversy stems from their history as the former Oilers franchise. This year, the Titans had the NFL send a cease-and-desist letter to the University of Houston Cougars for wearing uniforms that resembled the Oilers' "Love-Ya Blue" font. Knowing the Titans' past reactions, the league had a say in Houston's uniform design.

Hannah McNair revealed that the league initially granted Houston permission to use a slightly different blue reminiscent of the old-school colors. However, once other teams caught wind of the design, pushback ensued, leading to the compromise.

When asked about the reason for the league's pushback, Hannah McNair spoke without hesitation, implying that it was due to the Titans' opposition. This further fueled the rivalry between the two cities and added more fuel to the uniform debate.

Last season, Titans fans were infuriated when the team wore Oilers' throwback uniforms for two games, including the home matchup against the Texans. However, the Texans had the last laugh with a 19-16 overtime victory, led by Offensive Rookie of the Year C.J. Stroud and Houston alum Case Keenum.

Hannah McNair did not hold back when responding to Titans fans who called her salty about the uniform controversy. She questioned who had started it by wearing the Oilers-inspired uniforms against the Texans, and she also mentioned how the in-house PA system at last year's game in Tennessee seemed to instigate the rivalry. With a three-game winning streak against the former franchise, Hannah made it clear that the Texans have the upper hand for now.

As the AFC rivalry between the Titans and Texans continues, the introduction of the new uniform designs has only intensified the competition. The clash of colors and history has added another layer to the sporting spectacle. As the season approaches, fans eagerly await the opportunity to witness these teams battle it out on the field, both in performance and in style.
