Based on George R.R. Martin's Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas, the prequel is set approximately a century before the events of Game of Thrones when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne. The series will follow the incredible adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall, played by Claffey, and his diminutive squire, Egg, portrayed by Ansell.

The first season of "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight" will adapt Martin's 1998 novella, "The Hedge Knight." Martin himself will be involved in the production, serving as a writer and executive producer alongside Ira Parker, known for their work on House of the Dragon.

The prequel series has been in the works since it was officially announced almost a year ago and recently entered pre-production. It is scheduled to premiere on HBO Max in late 2025.

Meanwhile, fans can look forward to the return of "House of the Dragon" for its second season on June 16. Continuing the adaptation of Martin's "Fire and Blood," the series focuses on the Dance of the Dragons, a civil war that unfolds among the Targaryens. Emma D'Arcy stars as Rhaenyra Targaryen, while Olivia Cooke portrays Alicent Hightower, both pivotal figures in the conflict.

As Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav emphasizes the company's commitment to franchise-focused content, "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight" joins a growing list of potential Game of Thrones spinoffs. These include a spinoff centered around Jon Snow, animated projects, and a drama about Aegon's conquest of Westeros.

With the casting of Claffey and Ansell in the lead roles, anticipation for the Game of Thrones prequel series continues to build. Fans eagerly await the exploration of the rich lore and history of Westeros in this new and exciting venture.
