The recall was prompted after several incidents of illness were reported among consumers who had eaten the sweets.
The Dutch food and consumer product safety authority revealed that cannabis was detected in three samples of the cola-flavored candy. This prompted an urgent warning from Haribo, advising consumers not to eat the contaminated products to avoid health issues such as dizziness.
The situation escalated when multiple individuals, including children, fell ill after consuming the cola bottle-shaped candies. The affected consumers are from the Twente region in the eastern Netherlands. Dutch police highlighted the significant impact the contaminated candies had on young children, making the issue particularly concerning.
As authorities continue their investigation, Haribo's recall aims to prevent further consumption of the tainted sweets and mitigate any further health risks to the public.
