The Republican candidate for schools superintendent in North Carolina, Michele Morrow, faced intense questioning from CNN this week regarding alleged past tweets calling for the execution of former President Barack Obama on pay-per-view and advocating violence against Democrats. Despite multiple opportunities to deny the allegations, Morrow chose not to comment on the matter.

During the heated exchange with CNN reporter Shimon Prokupecz, Morrow attempted to shift the conversation away from her controversial social media history by questioning why the reporter was interested in North Carolina. However, the news network claims that Morrow's social media activity has raised legitimate concerns.

One of the unearthed tweets allegedly stated, "I prefer a Pay Per View of him in front of the firing squad," referring to the former President's death. Morrow also appeared to endorse the death of President Biden in another alleged tweet. These disturbing statements have attracted significant attention, as they suggest a willingness to promote violence against political opponents.

Morrow's candidacy includes listing her 16 years of homeschooling her children as relevant experience for leading North Carolina's extensive school system with over 1.4 million students and a multibillion-dollar budget. However, her alleged tweets also included inflammatory remarks, such as claiming that "Satan" was manipulating "liberal lunatics" and expressing distrust in the pharmaceutical industry's intentions regarding children's health.

Notably, Morrow has been previously characterized as a "conspiracy theorist" who holds anti-LGBTQ, anti-science, and Islamophobic views. The scrutinized social media activity adds another layer of concern for those questioning her suitability for a leadership position in public education.

Democrat Mo Green, Morrow's opponent in the upcoming November election, has raised concerns about her violent rhetoric and its potential impact on the school system. Green emphasized the need to prevent such rhetoric from infiltrating the top positions of public education in the state.

Despite repeated attempts by CNN to elicit a denial or explanation from Morrow, she refused to address the alleged tweets, leaving unanswered questions about her views and judgment.

As the election approaches, voters will have to weigh the disturbing revelations about Morrow's social media history against her relevant experience in deciding who will lead North Carolina's schools. The controversy surrounding her candidacy highlights the importance of thoroughly examining candidates' backgrounds and beliefs when placing them in positions of power that influence the education of future generations.
