The New York Giants had their sights set on USC running back MarShawn Lloyd during the NFL Draft, according to reports. However, their plans were foiled when the Green Bay Packers selected Lloyd at No. 88, leaving the Giants without a chance to pick him.

Instead, the Giants pivoted and selected Purdue receiver Tyrone Tracy, Jr. in the fifth round. Despite being relatively new to the running back position, Tracy has shown promise and is expected to make an immediate impact in his rookie season. Pro Football Focus believes that Tracy's college production and versatility will enable him to create mismatches on the field.

During his time at Purdue, Tracy averaged an impressive 6.3 yards per attempt, with 4.44 yards after contact per attempt. He also forced 46 missed tackles, ranking third in the Big Ten. Tracy's prior experience as a receiver adds to his value, as he spent a significant portion of his snaps in the slot and out wide, averaging 6.8 yards after the catch per reception in the last two seasons.

Tracy will join the rest of the Giants' rookies and tryout players for the team's annual rookie minicamp. The practices on Friday and Saturday will be open to the media, providing an opportunity for Tracy to showcase his skills and make a strong impression.

The Giants' draft selections of Tracy and cornerback Rodarius Williams have been praised by Pro Football Focus for their value. Despite criticism surrounding Williams' lack of interceptions in college, he demonstrated his productivity with 38 receptions allowed out of 57 targets. Additionally, Williams ranked among the top FBS cornerbacks with 23 defensive stops.

Although the Giants missed out on their initial target, MarShawn Lloyd, their strategic selection of Tyrone Tracy, Jr. demonstrates their adaptability and belief in his potential to contribute to the team's offense. As Tracy and the rest of the rookies prepare for the rookie minicamp, fans eagerly await their debut and hope to see their impact on the field during the upcoming season.
