Galaxy S23 Users Experience Slowdowns After May 2024 Google Play System Update

In a recent development, Galaxy S23 users have reported experiencing sluggish performance and prolonged app launch times after installing the May 2024 Google Play System update. The update, which was rolled out by Google towards the end of April, aimed to bring stability improvements and new features like Cross-device services for seamless Google Meet video call handovers and password sharing in Google Password Manager for family members.
However, it appears that the May 2024 Play System update has unintentionally affected several Galaxy devices, including the Galaxy S23, causing them to slow down and experience delays in app operations. Recognizing the issue, Samsung has acknowledged the problem in its South Korean community forum and presented a simple temporary fix.
According to a company moderator, users may notice a slowdown in their Galaxy phones, especially after prolonged usage post the installation of the latest Google Play System update. To address this, Samsung suggests rebooting the phone, which can temporarily resolve the problem until a permanent fix is released.
Notably, installing the Google Play System update requires restarting the Android phone. In this case, Samsung recommends another restart after a few hours if users encounter continued slowness and delays in opening apps.
For users who have yet to install the May 2024 Play System update, it is advisable to delay the installation, as it may help in avoiding the slowdown issues. With June already underway, it is anticipated that Google's upcoming Play System build for this month may contain the necessary fix to resolve the slowdown problems.
This is the second usability issue faced by Galaxy owners in less than a week, and both instances appear to be unrelated to any actions on their part. Just recently, reports emerged of Samsung Messages crashing on Galaxy devices due to a Google Meet update. Similarly, in late March, the One UI 6.1 update caused touchscreen issues on the Galaxy S23 series, which were later determined to be caused by the Google Discover feed. Google eventually released a fix for the problem.
It is noteworthy that Samsung Galaxy device owners often encounter issues due to Google updates, emphasizing the need for thorough testing and ensuring compatibility before implementing such updates.
