**Fugitive on FBI’s Most Wanted List Captured After Buying Welsh Home**

A man who unwittingly sold his rural residence to a fugitive on the FBI’s most wanted list described the location as ideal for someone wanting to remain unnoticed. Daniel Andreas San Diego, who adopted the alias Danny Webb, purchased the house in north Wales near Llanrwst in August 2023 for £425,000. On Monday, authorities arrested San Diego in Maenan, ending his 21-year run after being linked to two 2003 explosions in San Francisco.

Aled Evans, who sold the property, said the secluded home seemed perfect for San Diego, who appeared enthusiastic about the surrounding woodland, ideal for mountain biking. "He was quite excited because there was a big woodland at the back,” Evans mentioned in an interview with BBC Radio Wales Breakfast. Despite the sale appearing typical, it’s now clear San Diego valued the property for reasons beyond its scenic views.

The area, characterized by sprawling farms and holiday cottages, lacks commercial establishments like shops or pubs. The house itself is a picturesque white villa with a balcony that offers stunning views of the surrounding hills and a meticulously kept garden. A visit by the BBC revealed signs of an abrupt exit, with keys dangling from a glass door and personal items scattered throughout the kitchen and living area.

Evans noted that although the property wasn’t entirely isolated, it was accessible via an unmade track on a frequently used public footpath through the woods. San Diego offered £15,000 above the asking price, evidently won over by the scenic view from the balcony, despite not showing concern over incomplete repairs to an adjacent summer house.

Describing San Diego as a pleasant and quiet individual, Evans recalled thinking his accent seemed Canadian rather than American. He mentioned seeing San Diego for about 20 minutes on moving day, noting his calm demeanor and the fact that neighbors never saw him afterwards. News of San Diego’s arrest came as a shock when a former neighbor reached out to inform Evans.

San Diego's location, at the end of a narrow track leading to the Cadair Ifan Goch viewing point, made it an ideal hideout. The area, benefiting from extraordinary vistas of the Carneddau mountains and the scenic Conwy river, seemed to be a paradise for an outdoors enthusiast.

In addition to being an avid mountain biker, a wetsuit found hanging inside the property hinted at San Diego's enjoyment of the outdoors. However, after two decades on the run, his next accommodation — presumed to be a prison cell — will offer a stark contrast to the idyllic Welsh retreat he chose.
