In a bittersweet return to PNC Park, former Pittsburgh Pirate Tyler Glasnow showcased his pitching prowess but couldn't secure a win for his new team, the Los Angeles Dodgers. Despite Glasnow's impressive display on the mound, the Dodgers suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat against the Pirates on Tuesday night.

Glasnow, a 30-year-old right-hander, delivered a strong performance against his former Major League club, recording a Major League-leading 104 strikeouts so far this season. In the game, he managed to tally nine strikeouts in six innings, allowing only five baserunners. However, his sole mistake proved costly, as he surrendered a home run to the Pirates' Jack Suwinski in the third inning.

On the other side, the Pirates' starter, Jared Jones, proved to be an equally formidable opponent for Glasnow. Jones threw 100 pitches over six innings, shutting out the Dodgers and limiting them to just three hits and three walks, while striking out six batters. Jones' impressive outing was complemented by a flawless performance by the Pirates' bullpen, which went 12 for 12 against Dodgers hitters with runners in scoring position.

Despite the loss, Glasnow expressed appreciation for his return to Pittsburgh, where he had yet to pitch as a member of the Rays or the Dodgers since the ill-fated Chris Archer trade in 2018. Reflecting on his improvement since his time as a Pirate, Glasnow humorously remarked, "Then, I just sucked every time. Now, I feel like I'm better than I was then. Definitely a stark difference for sure."

Indeed, Glasnow's statistics since 2019 paint a stark contrast to his underwhelming tenure with the Pirates. While his record stood at 3-11 with a 5.79 ERA in 56 appearances during his time in Pittsburgh, Glasnow has since thrived, boasting a 32-14 record with a 3.03 ERA and an impressive 566 strikeouts against 125 walks between the Rays and the Dodgers.

Speaking of Jones' performance, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts acknowledged the challenges his team faced. Despite Jones' occasional lack of command, seemingly unsure of where his fastball was headed, his blazing 100-mile-per-hour pitches kept the Dodgers' batters on their toes. Roberts commended Jones for being "effectively wild" and admitted that his team struggled to find comfort at the plate.

In their next matchup, the Dodgers will have to contend with Paul Skenes on Wednesday, another talented pitcher who has proven to be a formidable opponent. With the memory of their narrow defeat still fresh, the Dodgers will strive to bounce back and secure a victory.

While Glasnow's return to PNC Park may not have resulted in a win for the Dodgers, his exceptional performance demonstrated the stark difference in his development since leaving the Pirates. With his continued success on the mound, Glasnow has proven himself to be a valuable asset to his new team.
