In an eventful week of roster cuts in the NFL, several former NC State players have been claimed by other teams, securing spots on their 53-man rosters or practice squads. Among the notable pickups, place kicker Brayden Narveson has joined the Green Bay Packers, while defensive tackle TY McGill has found a place on the San Francisco 49ers practice squad. Additionally, wide receiver Thayer Thomas has been added to the Minnesota Vikings practice squad, and linebacker Vi Jones has joined the practice squad of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Narveson, who transferred to NC State from Western Kentucky, showcased his skills during the preseason with the Titans, hitting an impressive 59-yard field goal and going 6 of 7 overall. His performance earned him a spot on the Packers' roster, resulting in the release of Anders Carlson and Greg Joseph.

Meanwhile, McGill, who played two games for the 49ers last year and had a stint on their practice squad, has once again found a place with the team, this time on their practice squad.

Thomas, who was part of the Vikings' practice squad last year, has been retained this season as well, offering depth to their receiving corps. Similarly, Jones, who spent last year on the practice squads of both the Seahawks and the Buccaneers, continues his journey in Tampa Bay.

In another development, center Dylan McMahon, who was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the sixth round this spring, was released during roster cuts. However, the Eagles still see potential in McMahon and have signed him to their practice squad, providing him with an opportunity to continue developing his skills.

Moving on from the roster cuts, former NC State quarterback Jacoby Brissett has managed to secure the starting quarterback position with the New England Patriots. This achievement becomes even more significant as he beat out formidable competition in the form of former UNC quarterback, Drake Maye, who was drafted with the third overall pick this spring. Brissett's experience and leadership played a crucial role in his victory, despite Maye delivering better numbers during the preseason.

Brissett expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, acknowledging the competition and the support he received from Maye. As a seasoned player, Brissett aims to make the most of his role as a mentor to the younger quarterbacks while also leading the Patriots on the field.

The NFL preseason has come to a close, leaving fans excited for the start of the 2024 season. Amidst the roster cuts, several former NC State players have not only found new homes but also showcased their talent in preseason games. From standout performances by cornerback Robert Kennedy and safety Tanner Ingle to the impressive displays by running back Zonovan Knight and quarterback Russell Wilson, NC State alumni have made their mark on the field.

With the regular season just around the corner, these former Wolfpack players will look to contribute to their respective teams, bringing their skills and dedication to the forefront.
