In a tragic turn of events, Darius Morris, a former NBA point guard who played for several teams including the Los Angeles Lakers, Philadelphia 76ers, Los Angeles Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies, and Brooklyn Nets, has passed away at the age of 33. The University of Michigan, Morris' alma mater, confirmed the news on Saturday, although the cause of death has not been disclosed.

Morris had a notable college career, playing for two seasons under coach John Beilein at the University of Michigan. During his sophomore campaign in the 2010-11 season, he led his team to the NCAA tournament and set a new school record with 235 assists. However, that record has since been surpassed by Trey Burke (260) and Zavier Simpson (236).

Following his successful college stint, Morris declared for the NBA Draft and was drafted as the 41st overall pick by his hometown team, the Los Angeles Lakers. He spent two seasons with the Lakers, playing alongside legendary player Kobe Bryant during the final years of his career. Morris averaged 3.6 points in 67 total appearances for the Lakers and even started two playoff games during the 2012-13 season when Bryant was injured. Unfortunately, the Lakers were eliminated from the playoff series in a four-game sweep by the San Antonio Spurs.

Morris went on to play 65 more NBA games for different teams, including the Philadelphia 76ers, where he achieved a career-high of 20 points in a single game during the 2013-14 season. After his NBA career, he continued playing basketball in the G-League and internationally. His final season as a professional player was with the French team BCM Gravelines-Dunkerque in the 2019-20 season.

The sudden passing of Darius Morris has sent shockwaves through the basketball community. Fans and fellow players have taken to social media to express their condolences and pay tribute to his talent and contributions to the sport. The details of his funeral or any memorial services have not been announced at this time.

Morris' untimely death reminds us of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing every moment. His legacy as a skilled point guard and his impact on the basketball world will undoubtedly be remembered.
