### Former Cowboy Greg Hardy Arrested in Richardson on Assault Charge
RICHARDSON, Texas - Greg Hardy, once a player for the Dallas Cowboys, was detained on Wednesday on the accusation of assaulting a family member, as shown in jail records. Hardy was taken into custody at 2:29 p.m. and booked into the Richardson jail with a bond set at $1,000.
Hardy was spotted leaving the jail around noon on the same day, accompanied by someone who picked him up. Police officials have confirmed Hardy’s arrest but are withholding further information until his arraignment, which will include the release of the arrest warrant affidavit.
This incident adds to Hardy's long history of legal troubles. His NFL career was notably turbulent; he played only one season for the Cowboys after joining the team under controversial circumstances. In 2014, while with the Panthers, Hardy was placed on the NFL's exempt list following domestic violence allegations from an ex-girlfriend and later served a four-game suspension once he signed with the Cowboys. Although Hardy consistently maintained his innocence, he acknowledged regret after photos surfaced showing his ex-girlfriend’s injuries. The criminal case against him was eventually dismissed, but his signing by Cowboys owner Jerry Jones faced widespread backlash.
During his time with the Cowboys, Hardy's behavior remained erratic. He had an altercation with a teammate during a practice, and in a separate incident, abandoned his Bentley in high water in Dallas. Hardy's tenure with the Cowboys ended shortly thereafter.
In 2016, Hardy encountered more legal problems when he was arrested in Richardson on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance. After stepping away from football, Hardy pursued a career in mixed-martial arts, including a brief stint in the UFC. His final bouts ended in knockout losses, culminating in a defeat in March 2022.
