In a surprising twist, Florida State and Clemson are reportedly unlikely to depart the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) anytime soon. Both schools have until August 15th to inform the ACC if they plan to leave by the 2025-26 academic year, but according to ESPN's Pete Thamel, such a move is not expected.

Thamel pointed out that the ongoing legal battles regarding the ACC's grant of rights and withdrawal fees have hindered any expectations of immediate action. As a result, little movement is anticipated from these two powerhouses.

The realm of college sports has witnessed significant instability in recent years, with conference realignment sparking numerous changes. Texas and Oklahoma will begin their tenure in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) in the 2024 football season. Additionally, Oregon, USC, UCLA, and Washington will become part of the Big Ten. Meanwhile, the Big 12 will welcome Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, and Utah, while California, SMU, and Stanford will join the ACC.

As the landscape of college football evolves, two conferences are emerging as frontrunners in terms of competition quality and revenue generation. The SEC and the Big Ten boast the majority of realistic national title contenders and are responsible for generating the most revenue.

Nevertheless, despite the allure of other conferences, it seems that Florida State and Clemson are opting to stay put for now. With ongoing legal battles weighing them down, any plans for departure remain on hold. College sports enthusiasts will have to wait and see if any developments arise in the future, but for now, the ACC appears to be their home.
