Leading the U.S. delegation to the prestigious event, Biden expressed her admiration for the ceremony and shared her excitement for the upcoming Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.

The festivities took place amid heavy rainfall, drenching the athletes as they paraded down the river Seine on boats. However, the rain did not dampen spirits, and Biden commended the resilience of the participants.

"So, last night, it was just spectacular," Biden said in a statement. "The rain did not dampen our spirits... Every step of the way, I was thinking to myself, oh my god, oh my god. How are we going to top this?"

Reflecting on Paris' iconic landmarks, Biden acknowledged that the Eiffel Tower added to the grandeur of the event. Nevertheless, she confidently stated that Los Angeles possesses the enchantment of Hollywood, which has the power to bring dreams to life. She assured that the 2028 Games in Los Angeles would leave a lasting impression on Olympians and fans alike.

"At the end of the 2028 Games, Olympians and fans will see themselves reflected in Los Angeles," Biden emphasized, highlighting the city's cultural significance and its ability to shape the aspirations of future generations.

However, while the opening ceremony received accolades from some, it faced criticism from U.S. and international lawmakers. Drag queens and artists using the Leonardo DaVinci painting, the Last Supper, in a performance provoked outrage and condemnation.

House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., expressed his dismay, calling the mockery of the Last Supper "shocking and insulting" to Christians worldwide. He denounced the act as part of an ongoing "war" on faith and traditional values.

Italy's Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini joined in the criticism, posting a picture of the drag queens alongside the Last Supper and describing the ceremony as "seedy."

The controversy surrounding the opening ceremony has sparked a debate about the boundaries of artistic expression and religious sensitivity.

Despite the controversy, the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics 2024 left a lasting impression on attendees, including First Lady Jill Biden, who now envisions the challenge of surpassing its grandeur for the upcoming 2028 Games in Los Angeles.
