In a late-night operation, firefighters successfully extinguished a fire that broke out at Oregon's historic Timberline Lodge, which gained fame for its appearance in the iconic film "The Shining." The blaze, which occurred on Thursday night, was swiftly contained to the lodge's roof and attic, potentially caused by embers from the lodge's stone fireplace.

According to a Facebook post by the lodge, the damage caused by the fire appeared to be minimal. Thanks to the coordinated efforts of Timberline employees, Hoodland Fire, Clackamas County, and Gresham first responders, the fire was brought under control before it could lead to more significant destruction. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident.

In response to the fire, the lodge temporarily closed its doors and provided alternative accommodations for its guests. The closure of the lodge also resulted in the closure of the Mount Hood ski area for the day.

Steeped in history, the Timberline Lodge was constructed in 1937, situated at an elevation of 6,000 feet on Mount Hood, which stands at 11,249 feet. Built as part of the Works Progress Administration, a program initiated during the Great Depression to generate employment opportunities, the lodge has become a beloved landmark over the decades.

Fans of Stanley Kubrick's 1980 psychological horror film "The Shining" will recognize the Timberline Lodge, as it was used as the exterior location for the renowned Overlook Hotel. Adapted from Stephen King's 1977 novel of the same name, the film has cemented the Timberline Lodge's association with cinematic history.

As investigations continue into the cause of the fire, the Timberline Lodge remains closed until further notice, ensuring the safety of its staff and visitors. The lodge expressed its gratitude to the emergency responders for their swift and effective actions, affirming that their exceptional work prevented a potentially more devastating outcome.

While the lodge recovers from the fire incident, the community and fans of the historic Timberline Lodge eagerly await its reopening, ready to bask in its timeless splendor once again.
