The family of actress Mamie Laverock has announced their intention to take legal action against St. Paul's Hospital in Vancouver, Canada. Nicole Rockmann, Laverock's mother, believes they have a strong case of negligence against the hospital. Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, Rockmann expressed her relief that her daughter survived the incident, and described it as an "absolute miracle" that she is alive.
Rockmann stressed that the incident was not intended or a suicide attempt, and blamed the hospital for the fall. Laverock had been transferred to a trauma center and was no longer under the care of St. Paul's Hospital. Providence Health Care, the organization that operates the hospital, acknowledged the incident but stated they could not provide details due to patient privacy. They expressed their sympathy to the patient and family, wishing for a full recovery.
At the time of the interview, Laverock had just regained consciousness and showed awareness by being able to squeeze her mother's hand. However, she remained in tremendous pain due to severe injuries, requiring multiple surgeries. Following the fall, Laverock was placed on life support but has since been taken off a ventilator. Rockmann shared updates through a GoFundMe page established to cover medical expenses, revealing that her daughter has undergone three surgeries so far.
Expressing gratitude towards the medical staff who have cared for Laverock, Rockmann emphasized the actress's fighting spirit and love for life and family. She acknowledged that Laverock had faced a previous medical emergency in Winnipeg on May 11 before being transported to St. Paul's Hospital.
Before the fall, Laverock's recovery was uncertain, and Rockmann anticipated that she would require care for an extended period.
The family's decision to pursue legal action against the hospital highlights their belief in accountability for the incident. As Laverock continues her recovery, her loved ones remain hopeful for her return to health and express gratitude for the support they have received.
