In a refreshing turn of events at the box office, AFFIRM Films' faith-based drama 'The Forge' made a resounding impact in its debut weekend, surpassing expectations and earning an estimated $6.6 million from 1,818 locations. The film, distributed by Sony, managed to secure a spot in the Top 5, captivating its target audience and garnering impressive audience ratings and reviews.

'The Forge' proved to be a genuine crowd-pleaser, receiving an A+ CinemaScore and a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes' Popcornmeter. The film, which was barely reviewed by mainstream press outlets, saw critical reception playing a minimal role in its success.

With its captivating story and a cast comprising relatively unknown stars, 'The Forge' performed on par with this year's previous Christian dramas, 'Ordinary Angels' and 'Unsung Hero,' both opening with $6.1 million and $7.7 million respectively. The film also surpassed the openings of recent releases by the Kendrick Brothers, including 'Lifemark' and 'Show Me the Father.'

Sony is optimistic about the film's future, anticipating strong multiples in the coming weeks as word-of-mouth continues to spread and draw more audiences to theaters.

In other box office news, Lionsgate's long-awaited remake of the cult classic comic book adaptation, 'The Crow,' unfortunately met a disappointing fate, opening with a lackluster $4.6 million, landing it at the eighth position. Critics proved to be harsh pallbearers for the film, giving it a meager 20% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the film managed to earn a slightly better audience score of 66% and a CinemaScore of "B-," reflecting its appeal to fans of R-rated horror-leaning supernatural revenge movies.

Meanwhile, the re-release of Laika's beloved 2009 animated film, 'Coraline,' through Fathom experienced an unexpected surge in popularity since its opening on August 15. This weekend, it claimed the seventh spot at the box office, grossing $5 million across 1,422 screens. The re-release's total now stands at an impressive $22,514,982 million, with a lifetime domestic gross of $106.9 million. The film's recent success marks a remarkable achievement, with 21% of the total revenue generated in the last 11 days.

In addition, director JT Mollner's cat and mouse thriller, 'Strange Darling,' made its mark at the box office with an opening weekend revenue of $1,144,182 million. Screened across 1,135 screens, the movie, featuring a talented cast including Willa Fitzgerald, Kyle Gallner, Barbara Hershey, and Ed Begley Jr., also served as actor Giovanni Ribisi's debut as a cinematographer.

As the box office continues to witness diverse offerings, 'The Forge' stands tall as a faith-based drama that has resonated with audiences, surpassing early predictions and solidifying itself as a success story. With its powerful message, stellar ratings, and promising word-of-mouth, the film sets a positive trajectory for the coming weeks and reaffirms the enduring appeal of faith-based storytelling in the industry.
