In the midst of speculation surrounding JJ Redick's potential role as the next head coach for the Los Angeles Lakers, ESPN play-by-play announcer Mike Breen shared his thoughts on the matter during a recent appearance on the "Dan Patrick Show." Breen's comments hinted at a possible change within the ESPN organization.

During the interview on Tuesday morning, Breen indicated that Redick had yet to receive a formal offer for the Lakers' coaching job. He also expressed his expectation of continuing to work alongside Redick as his broadcast partner in the upcoming year. However, Breen's response to questions regarding Redick's employment status at ESPN seemed to suggest uncertainty.

When asked directly if Redick was still on ESPN's payroll, Breen emitted an awkward chuckle before commenting, "We're trying to confirm that right now." He went on to humorously compare himself to coaches with coaching trees, stating that he had now become a broadcaster with a coaching tree.

Breen's hesitancy and evasiveness when probed further about his colleague raised eyebrows among viewers. He even playfully admonished Patrick for questioning him after his late-night broadcast of the NBA Finals. Redick himself has opted to address his coaching future after the conclusion of the Finals.

The speculations regarding Redick as the leading candidate for the Lakers' head coaching position gained traction when The Athletic's Shams Charania reported it earlier this month. However, with Breen's remarks and the uncertainty surrounding ESPN's plans for Redick, the situation has taken on a new level of intrigue.

As the NBA Finals come to a close, fans and media alike eagerly await further developments in Redick's career. Will he secure the Lakers' coaching job or continue his role as an ESPN analyst alongside Mike Breen? Only time will tell.
