An El Al plane that departed from Warsaw on Sunday was forced to make an emergency landing at Antalya airport in Turkey due to a medical incident involving one of the passengers, as reported by Israeli media.
According to Israeli media sources, passengers were informed of a delay of several hours on the ground in Turkey, with no permission granted to disembark from the aircraft. It is worth noting that direct flights from Israel to Turkey had been suspended since the start of the Israel-Hamas war.
In addition to the medical emergency, the El Al plane also required refueling during the unexpected landing. However, a worker at the Antalya airport reportedly refused to refuel the aircraft, causing further delays before take-off, as stated by Israeli media.
El Al Airlines issued a response to the incident, recognizing that flight LY5102 from Warsaw to Tel Aviv had made an unscheduled landing in Antalya due to the urgent need to evacuate the affected passenger to a hospital.
Reports indicate that the initial permission for refueling at Antalya airport was granted, but Turkish political parties further delayed the decision, citing the requirement for permits to perform refueling.
Army Radio reported that local workers at the airport refused to refuel the El Al plane. However, the aircraft has now successfully departed for Rhodes, Greece, where it will undergo refueling before continuing its journey back to Israel.
The exact details surrounding the medical incident and the current status of the affected passenger have not been disclosed.
