The Philadelphia Eagles are reportedly finalizing a trade to send edge rusher Bryce Huff to the San Francisco 49ers, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Details shared on Twitter indicate that the trade, which cannot be processed until after June 1, will see Huff moving west in exchange for a mid-round draft pick. Both teams are working towards sealing the deal, with Huff already adjusting his contract to ease the process.

Huff joined the Eagles just last offseason on a lucrative three-year, $51.1 million contract, following an impressive stint with the New York Jets where he recorded 10 sacks in the 2023 season. Despite the high hopes, Huff's time in Philadelphia was underwhelming. He struggled throughout the season, managing only 13 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and one forced fumble, while missing five games due to a wrist injury. His liabilities were particularly evident in a Week 2 game against the Falcons, where he was ineffective both as a pass rusher and in defending the run.

As the season progressed, Huff's role continued to diminish. By the playoffs, he was almost entirely sidelined, playing sparingly across the Eagles' postseason matches. His playoff appearances included just one snap in the Wildcard Round against the Packers, zero in the Divisional Round against the Rams, and 12 garbage-time snaps during the blowout win over the Commanders in the NFC Championship Game. He was inactive in the Super Bowl game against the Chiefs.

Huff's quick exit from the field following the Eagles' NFC Championship Game victory highlighted his desire for a fresh start. For the Eagles, moving Huff and recouping some value through a mid-round pick can be seen as a minor win. His underperformance stood out during an otherwise stellar offseason for General Manager Howie Roseman, who brought in key talents like Saquon Barkley, Zack Baun, Quinyon Mitchell, and Cooper DeJean—players who were instrumental in the Eagles claiming their second Super Bowl title.

Now, Huff will reunite with 49ers Defensive Coordinator Robert Saleh, who previously coached him with the Jets. Both sides hope that the change of scenery will help Huff reinvigorate his career, while the Eagles continue to build on their championship successes.
