At least 54 individuals were transported to local hospitals following a hazardous materials incident at Sharp Services in Upper Macungie Township, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania. The incident, reported on Friday afternoon, prompted a swift response from emergency crews after complaints of a chemical smell within the facility, leading to symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and headaches among employees.

Authorities, including hazmat teams and fire crews, were dispatched to investigate the source of the illness, with initial assessments ruling out a gas leak. St. Luke's Hospital in Allentown received 22 of the patients, all of whom are reportedly stable and expected to be discharged soon. Lehigh Valley Health Network also admitted more than 20 individuals to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest and 10 patients to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg, with most presenting only minor symptoms or seeking precautionary evaluations.

The exact cause of the incident is yet to be determined as hazmat crews continue their investigations at the medical packaging company. With no serious symptoms reported among the affected employees, authorities are working diligently to ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals involved.
