Colorado Springs Police have confirmed a double homicide investigation at The University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS). The tragic incident occurred early Friday morning when two individuals were found dead inside a dorm at UCCS. Police responded to a shots fired call just after 6 a.m., leading to an hours-long shelter-in-place situation on campus. The names and identities of the victims have not been disclosed at this time.
UCCS students were shaken by the news, with one student, Adam Trujillo, expressing shock upon waking up to an email from a teacher detailing the lockdown and urging students to stay safe. The campus went into lockdown as police discovered the two deceased individuals in one of the dorm rooms.
In response to the incident, UCCS has closed for the weekend. The university has assured students that counselors will be available throughout the weekend for support. While no further details have been released, authorities have confirmed that there is no ongoing threat to the public. The district attorney's office has pledged to work closely with law enforcement as the investigation progresses.
To commemorate the victims, a potential vigil is being planned for Monday as the UCCS community comes together to mourn the tragic loss. The university has made counselors available from noon to 6 p.m. all weekend at both the cyber security building and the wellness center to provide assistance to students coping with the aftermath of the incident.
