Police in Colorado Springs are currently investigating a possible double-homicide after two individuals were found shot to death in a dorm room on the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs campus. The victims have been identified as 24-year-old Samuel Knopp, a registered student, and 26-year-old Celie Rain Montgomery, who is not currently enrolled at the university.
Authorities were alerted to the incident following a call reporting shots fired in the dorm room early Friday morning, shortly before 6 a.m. The victims were discovered soon after, sparking an active search for the perpetrator.
While a suspect has been taken into custody following the tragedy, little information has been disclosed about the ongoing investigation. Police have indicated that they believe the incident was not a random act. Classes at the university were canceled for the remainder of the day as authorities worked on the case.
UCCS Chancellor Jennifer Sobanet expressed shock and sorrow over the loss of the two lives, declaring Monday as a "day of healing" for the university community. Details of the investigation are being closely guarded as police continue to seek answers regarding the tragic event.
