The Miami Dolphins have taken a proactive approach to bolstering their pass rush, as they recently signed veteran defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah. This move comes as star edge rushers Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb were both placed on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list at the start of training camp due to season-ending injuries suffered in 2023.

In addition to the unfortunate injury news, the Dolphins also experienced a setback with the retirement of former Pro Bowler Shaq Barrett, who had signed with the team during free agency. With these developments, the need for pass-rush help became even more apparent.

To fill this void, the Dolphins hosted a workout for both Ogbah and Yannick Ngakoue on Monday, according to NFL Media sources. Following an impressive workout, the Dolphins decided to bring back the familiar face of Ogbah by signing him to a new deal.

Ogbah, who has played eight seasons in the NFL for the Cleveland Browns, Kansas City Chiefs, and Dolphins, brings a wealth of experience and productivity to the team. He has accumulated 42.5 sacks throughout his career, and his most successful seasons came during his back-to-back nine-sack campaigns for Miami in 2020 and 2021. Despite being limited to only nine games in 2022 with just one sack, Ogbah bounced back in a part-time role last year, recording 5.5 sacks.

Meanwhile, Ngakoue, an eight-year veteran who has played for several teams including the Jacksonville Jaguars, Minnesota Vikings, Baltimore Ravens, Las Vegas Raiders, Indianapolis Colts, and Chicago Bears, also worked out for the Dolphins. With an impressive career total of 69.0 sacks since entering the league in 2016, Ngakoue possesses a knack for pressuring opposing quarterbacks. Although he had a career-low four sacks in Chicago last season, he had registered at least eight sacks in each of his first seven seasons, joining an elite group of players such as Reggie White, Derrick Thomas, DeMarcus Ware, and the recently retired Aaron Donald.

The addition of Ogbah and potentially Ngakoue would elevate the Dolphins' pass rush rotation, particularly while Phillips and Chubb recover from their injuries. Defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver will look to unleash the duo's talents within his defensive system.

The Dolphins are clearly prioritizing the improvement of their pass rush by bringing in Ogbah and considering Ngakoue, demonstrating their commitment to strengthening their defense for the upcoming season. With training camp underway, all eyes will be on how these new acquisitions contribute to the team's success.

As the Dolphins continue to fine-tune their roster, fans eagerly await the start of the season to see how Miami's revamped pass rush fares against the competition.
