### Daniel Jones Set to Clear Waivers and Seek New Team

Former New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is poised to clear waivers on Monday and is expected to sign a one-year deal with another team soon after, according to league sources who spoke to ESPN. His current contract, which includes $11.8 million for this season and an additional $23 million in injury guarantees, is unlikely to be claimed by any team. This will make Jones officially free to join a new team after 4 p.m. ET on Monday.

Jones, waived by the Giants this past Saturday, is expected to have several options for his next move. Sources indicate that he prefers to join a playoff-contending team where he can play significant games, rather than a struggling team that is out of contention. Despite this, multiple teams are anticipated to express interest in Jones and gauge his enthusiasm for their offers.

The Giants announced their decision to part ways with Jones on Friday, concluding his stay in New York after more than five seasons. Giants owner John Mara noted that the decision was mutual and beneficial for both parties. Jones had already been benched earlier in the week, prompting a swift series of events leading up to his release as the Giants opted not to risk any injury to him.

With the starting job given to Tommy DeVito and Drew Lock as the backup, the Giants also brought in Tim Boyle as a third-string option. Jones participated in individual drills and even played scout-team safety in practice on Thursday before requesting and receiving his release on Friday.

This scenario is not unique in the NFL; similar actions have taken place in recent seasons with other quarterbacks. Last season, the Denver Broncos benched Russell Wilson to avoid triggering a $37 million guarantee for 2024 due to injury risk. The Raiders took similar actions with Jimmy Garoppolo and Derek Carr to prevent contract guarantees, and the Colts did the same with Matt Ryan to avoid a $7.5 million bonus.

With Jones now free to find a new home, it has been confirmed that the Philadelphia Eagles are not currently pursuing him, having already signed former Giants running back Saquon Barkley. Barkley, who was picked second overall in the 2018 draft, one year before Jones, has expressed optimism for Jones' future, noting his diligence and positive attitude.

"Our friendship has stayed close throughout the whole process of me being here," Barkley commented on Friday. He added, "Hopefully, wherever he ends up next, they're going to get a guy who will come in and work. It didn't work for me over there, and I'm doing well over here. Hopefully, he can find the same fresh start and success."

As Jones prepares for the next chapter of his career, the NFL community waits to see which playoff-contending team will secure his services for the remainder of the season.
