**Daniel Day-Lewis Returns from Retirement to Star in Son's Directorial Debut**
Daniel Day-Lewis, often celebrated as one of the most remarkable actors of his era, is stepping back into the spotlight after a seven-year hiatus. The Oscar-winning actor will headline the film "Anemone," an upcoming feature from Focus Features and Plan B. The project is particularly notable as it marks the directorial debut of his son, Ronan Day-Lewis, with whom Daniel co-wrote the screenplay.
"Anemone" delves deep into the complex web of father-son and brotherly relationships, as well as the broader intricacies of familial connections. Joining Daniel Day-Lewis in the cast are esteemed actors Sean Bean, Samantha Morton, Samuel Bottomley, and rising star Safia Oakley-Green. This will be Daniel's first acting endeavor since his acclaimed performance in "Phantom Thread" back in 2017.
Focus Features chairman Peter Kujawski expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, "We could not be more excited to partner with a brilliant visual artist in Ronan Day-Lewis on his first feature film alongside Daniel Day-Lewis as his creative collaborator. They have written a truly exceptional script, and we look forward to bringing their shared vision to audiences alongside the team at Plan B."
Daniel Day-Lewis's return to the screen through "Anemone" also sees him reuniting with Focus Features, the same studio that backed "Phantom Thread." The film will feature the talents of Ben Fordesman as director of photography, Jane Petrie in charge of costume design, and Chris Oddy overseeing production design.
Ronan Day-Lewis, 26, is not only making waves in the film industry but also in the art world. His debut international solo exhibition is set to open on October 2nd in Hong Kong and will later travel to New York City and Los Angeles. Meanwhile, his father, Daniel, holds the distinction of being the only actor to win three Best Actor Oscars, hailed for his performances in "Lincoln," "There Will Be Blood," and "My Left Foot." He has also been nominated for his roles in "Gangs of New York" and "In the Name of the Father."
In 2017, Daniel Day-Lewis announced his retirement from acting but did not provide specific reasons. A spokesperson conveyed that the actor was profoundly grateful to his collaborators and audiences over the years and emphasized the personal nature of his decision. Reflecting on his retirement, Daniel mentioned in an interview with W magazine that he felt a compelling need to make a public statement as a way of holding himself accountable and drawing a definitive line.
Earlier this year, Daniel made an appearance at the National Board of Review awards, where he reunited with director Martin Scorsese, sparking speculations about a potential future collaboration. Scorsese, while accepting an award for "Killers of the Flower Moon," hinted at the possibility, saying, "Maybe there's time for one more. Maybe! He's the best."
