In a move to finalize their roster ahead of the upcoming season, the Dallas Cowboys made several significant cuts on Tuesday, letting go of four running backs, including veteran Royce Freeman. Malik Davis, Nathaniel Peat, and Snoop Connor were also among the running backs released.

With these cuts, the Cowboys have narrowed down their running back options to Ezekiel Elliott, Rico Dowdle, and Deuce Vaughn. However, the team's decision may not be set in stone as they recently hosted veteran running back Dalvin Cook for a workout, suggesting the possibility of further roster adjustments.

Aside from the running back position, the Cowboys made additional cuts across different positions. Offensive linemen Josh Ball, Cohl Cabral, and Dakoda Shepley were among those released, while wide receivers Cam Johnson, Kelvin Harmon, David Durden, Deontay Burnett, Tyron-Billy Johnson, Racey McMath, and Jalen Cropper were also let go.

The team also trimmed their roster by parting ways with tight ends Alec Holler and Princeton Fant. On the defensive side, the Cowboys released defensive linemen Carl Lawson, Durrell Johnson, Viliami Fehoko, Albert Huggins, Justin Rogers, and Denzel Daxon. Linebackers Darius Harris, Willie Harvey, Jason Johnson, Brock Mogensen, Nick Vigil, and Damien Wilson were also among the players cut.

In the secondary, defensive backs Eric Scott, Josh DeBerry, Josh Butler, Kemon Hall, Emany Johnson, and Julius Wood did not make the final roster.

Furthermore, the Cowboys placed cornerback DaRon Bland on injured reserve/designated to return due to a foot injury. Offensive tackle Nathan Thomas was also moved to injured reserve, while defensive end Al-Quadin Muhammad was placed on the suspended list. Additionally, the team made a trade, sending tight end Peyton Hendershot to the Kansas City Chiefs.

With the roster now set at 53 players, the Cowboys have made significant decisions to shape their team for the upcoming season. While the release of veteran running back Royce Freeman and other players may come as a surprise to some, it showcases the team's commitment to building a roster that they believe will lead them to success on the field. As the regular season approaches, Cowboys fans eagerly await the start of the campaign and see how this newly finalized roster will fare in their quest for glory.
