**Dak Prescott Seeks Specialist Consultation Before Possible Season-Ending Surgery**

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is set to consult another specialist on Monday to determine if he must undergo season-ending surgery for his hamstring injury. Sources indicate that surgery is the most probable outcome, although Prescott is committed to exploring all possible avenues to return to the field this season.

Prescott is dealing with a partial hamstring tendon avulsion – a condition where the hamstring is partially torn off the bone – which NFL Network's Jane Slater first reported last week. This serious injury is anticipated to sideline Prescott for at least a month or more. Team officials have expressed the necessity of being cautious with their star player, considering he is the highest-paid member of the team.

Interestingly, the Cowboys opted not to place Prescott on injured reserve as was anticipated. This decision keeps alive a slim chance that he could miss fewer than four games. However, should Prescott be placed on IR this week, he would miss a minimum of five games, potentially returning no earlier than December 15 against the Panthers. By then, the situation would hinge on whether the Cowboys still have a competitive stake in Prescott's return.

Currently, the Cowboys are facing significant challenges, boasting a 3-5 record as they head into today's crucial home division match against the Eagles. With the team trailing first-place Washington by four games and three games behind the final NFC wild card spot, the stakes are high.

As for Prescott's long-term future, there is no uncertainty. He and the Cowboys reached an agreement on a historic four-year, $240 million contract extension, including $231 million guaranteed, just before the season's opener on September 8. This deal secures him with the team through 2028.

While Prescott deliberates his options, the Cowboys will rely on veteran backup quarterback Cooper Rush to lead the team, supported by former No. 3 overall pick Trey Lance. Upcoming games include a Monday night home clash against the Texans on November 18, a division game on the road against Washington, and a Thanksgiving showdown at home with the Giants.
