### Cowboys Coach Regrets, but Ownership Firm on Quarterback Choice

In the aftermath of a disappointing 34-10 loss to the Texans, Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy expressed regret for not giving Trey Lance some playing time. However, team owner Jerry Jones remains steadfast in his decision against starting Lance in any upcoming games.

Jones emphasized his commitment to using the quarterback who offers the best chance for the team to win, a nod to Cooper Rush. Rush has stepped in since November 3, following Dak Prescott’s hamstring injury against the Falcons, logging significant playtime with 158 snaps since then.

Trey Lance’s limited exposure came during a fourth-quarter appearance in a Week 10 loss to the Eagles, where he played 15 snaps. Despite the Cowboys' poor 3-7 record, including a winless 0-2 with Rush at the helm, Jones shows no inclination to test Lance further in regular-season action. Both Rush and Lance are set to become free agents in March, with the Cowboys having invested a fourth-round draft pick to acquire Lance from the 49ers just before the 2023 season started.

Jones reiterated his belief that continuing with Rush is the team's best strategy, despite acknowledging Lance's improvements in practice, particularly in footwork. This reluctance to field Lance suggests the team may be preparing to part ways with him in the offseason.

The move to trade for Lance, given his minimal playtime and uncertain future with the team, is increasingly seen as one of the Cowboys' more questionable decisions in recent history.
