In another hurdle for Katy Perry's highly-anticipated album launch, her video crew is currently under investigation for allegedly failing to obtain proper authorization to film on an environmentally protected beach in Spain. The crew had previously received "verbal approval" to proceed with filming the singer's "Lifetimes" music video, according to a representative from Perry's label, Capitol Records.

The Environmental Department of the Balearic Islands in Spain recently announced the investigation, stating that while the shoot did not constitute a "crime against the environment," the necessary full authorization had not been obtained. However, the Capitol Records spokesperson assured Variety that the local video production company had given assurances of securing all necessary permits, and although one permit was still in the process of being obtained, verbal authority had been granted to proceed.

The controversy comes as the latest in a series of challenges surrounding Perry's upcoming album "143," which is scheduled to be released on September 20. This album marks Perry's long-awaited return to the pop music scene after a four-year hiatus, and she aims to recapture her dominance in the genre throughout the 2010s.

Prior to the video shoot incident, Perry received criticism for the music video of her lead single "Woman's World." The video was accused of depicting cliché feminist stereotypes, although Perry later clarified that it was intended as a parody. Compounding the controversy, the single was produced by her longtime collaborator, Dr. Luke, who had faced allegations of sexual misconduct from his former protégé, Kesha. Dr. Luke maintained his innocence during the decade-long legal battle, and the case was ultimately settled without any admission of guilt.

The representative for Perry's label emphasized that the crew had followed all regulations associated with filming in the environmentally protected area and expressed utmost respect for the location and the officials tasked with its protection. Despite these efforts, the investigation into the video shoot is ongoing.

As fans eagerly await the release of Katy Perry's "143," the singer continues to navigate controversies that arise along her path to regain her pop music reign. Only time will tell how these challenges may impact her album's reception, but Perry's dedicated fan base remains hopeful for a triumphant return from their beloved artist.
