An Irish jury has reached a verdict against MMA fighter Conor McGregor, finding him guilty of assaulting a woman in Dublin in 2018. The ruling includes an order for McGregor to pay €250,000 (approximately $260,000) in damages to the complainant, Nikita Hand.
The allegations stem from an incident that allegedly occurred after a Christmas party in December 2018. According to Hand’s attorneys, McGregor had pinned her down, choked her three times, and sexually assaulted her in a hotel room. McGregor, however, has consistently denied these allegations, claiming that the encounter was "fully consensual."
In announcing his intentions to fight the ruling, McGregor took to social media platform X, stating that he plans to appeal the jury's decision. Another individual involved in the case, James Lawrence, was found not to have assaulted Hand.
This legal setback comes amidst McGregor's ongoing athletic career. He was originally slated to fight Michael Chandler at UFC 303 on June 29, but the match was cancelled due to McGregor suffering a broken toe.
